HB 3033, passed during the regular legislative session, amended the Public Information Act (PIA) by limiting the number of “nonbusiness” days for school districts. The statute expressly limits nonbusiness day exclusions to weekend days, national and state holidays, and the Friday or Monday after a holiday which falls on a weekend and is earlier/later observed. However, it does allow boards to designate up to ten days that will be considered “non-business days” for purposes of calculating PIA timelines. To help you calculate your deadlines under these new rules, we have come up with a nifty calculator chart. Fill in the days that your board designates as “non-business” and hang it on the wall. It will make your life easier, and at Walsh Gallegos, that’s what we’re all about. The WG PIA Timeline Calculator is attached here.
